Grinding Wheel Speed Calculator: The performance of the grinding wheel and quality of the finished work piece is affected by how fast the abrasive grains move over the work piece (surface speed). That speed affects surface quality, work piece burn, material removal rates, and other factors. Surface speed is calculated from the wheel diameter and rpm. In each of the two calculation tools below, enter values for 2 of the three boxes and click "calculate" to get the third.

Metric Units

Surface Speed (m/s) =
Wheel RPM =
Wheel Diameter (mm) =

Wheel Diameter (in) =

Grinding Wheel Dress Overlap Calculator:  Wheel performance is affected by the dress overlap, which is defined as the number of revolutions the wheel makes while the dresser traverses a distance equal to its width.  The lower the overlap, the more aggressive the resulting wheel surface will be.  In the tool below, enter values into 3 of the 4 boxes and click "calculate" to get the fourth.

Contact Width of Dresser =

Wheel RPM =
Traverse Speed =
